Marisa
Monte A fusion of American pop, jazz, and the sounds of her Brazilian homeland sets the music of Marisa Monte apart from her contemporaries. Although she began her musical studies at the age of fourteen, for a time the native of Rio de Janeiro found an alternative outlet to express herself creatively. As co-owner of a women's fashion accessories business she designed avant-garde works of wearable art, and she still adorns herself with some of her creations. Deciding to concentrate on a singing career, she embarked on musical studies both at home and abroad. Her self-titled debut album brought praise from critics and the public alike, and with her singing, songwriting, and producing skills she helps to promote the music of Brazil. MEMORIES, CHRONICLES, AND DECLARATIONS OF LOVE Marisa Monte's latest musical endeavor, Memories, Chronicles, and Declarations of Love, is a collection of evocative light jazz, with each song sounding like a lyrical confession. Emotions overflow on such tracks as "Nao E Facil," a desperate appeal to a lover she cannot forget, "Gota de Luar," and "Sou Seu Sabia," an unabashedly romantic ballad.
