Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
When: June 11, 2002
Where: Saint Salvator's, a 17th century church on the Castle Leslie estate in Ireland, 80 miles north of Dublin
The Event: Following an engagement in Jaipur, India, the couple set about making plans for this event which drew worldwide attention. The star-filled ceremony included names such as former Beatle Ringo Starr, ex-model Twiggy, Beatles producer George Martin, The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour, and tennis player Monica Seles among the guests. The chapel, located at the historic hotel, was filled with flowers imported from Holland including carnations, Casablanca lilies, red, pink and yellow roses, white, pink and yellow tulips, hydrangeas, and cymbidium orchids. After the ceremony and the reception, the couple boarded a vintage cabin cruiser and watched fireworks from the middle of a lake on the estate.
The Dress: The former model wore a dress she had styled herself; the creation was produced by London's Eavis & Brown.
A Special Moment: Personalized touches filled the ceremony, from the bridal march of "Heather", a song written for Heather Mills by McCartney, to the flowers, 11 red-pink McCartney roses for a bouquet. The rose was named after Paul.
The Reception: The vegetarian couple hosted an Indian-themed reception with vegetarian offerings.
Honeymoon: The exclusive private island getaway, Fregate
Island, served as the honeymoon destination for this couple. Located
in the Seychelles Islands.
