Planning a Venice Wedding

continued from page 1

What paperwork and legalities do couples need to handle to arrange a wedding in Venice?

The paperwork is extremely easy for a legal wedding in Venice when handled by Regency, as we provide full assistance with the legalities. American couples can complete this all in one or two weekday mornings here in Italy and do not need to obtain any documents at home other than their passports.

What's the most popular wedding season in Venice? During this time, how long in advance would you recommend couples begin planning their wedding and reserving their venue?

June and September are the most popular months, but beginning in early Spring couples begin marrying here all the way through to the end of October. However, I've even seen couples love marrying here in the middle of Winter. I recommend couples reserving their wedding 6-12 months in advance, depending on the size of the wedding and location.

However, I have organized weddings here with even just one month's notice.

What special Venetian touches and traditions can couples add to their ceremony?

In Venice, the water is such an important facet of the city that couples like to include in their wedding celebration. As they take their traditional wedding gondola ride following the ceremony, they drop flowers and other objects into the water as a sign of their eternal love for each other and in honor of the water of Venice.

Venice is home to some of the greatest classical musical composers of all time, such as Locanda Vivaldi, composer of the famous "Four Seasons". As our string quartet plays, the Venetian classical music theme runs throughout the ceremony and reception.

The Venetian masks were originally made for Carnevale but have now come to symbolize Venice. At receptions, we have them placed at each person's place setting. As the guests are seated for dinner, they wear the masks. This makes for such memorable wedding pictures and adds a special Venetian touch to their celebration.

What types of wedding packages does your company offer?

-Catholic church weddings

-Civil weddings in the town hall of Venice

- Legal weddings in private venues since we have the unique opportunity to arrange civil weddings in private antique palaces, villas, gardens, and terraces of your choice.

Our basic ceremony packages include overall coordination for the ceremony and full assistance leading up to and on the wedding day, the ceremony location fee, an English speaking supervisor for the ceremony, full assistance with the religious paperwork (for Catholic weddings) and legal paperwork (for civil weddings), English speaking celebrants or translators when needed, a special wedding gondola or motorboat, photography, music and a bridal bouquet and boutonniere.

What special advice would you have for brides considering a wedding in Venice?

Remember to appreciate every minute of the most beautiful day of their lives in the most romantic city in the world.
