The
Wedding Planner
Kristin Bedwell, Sr. Catering Sales Manager
Renaissance Waverly Hotel
Atlanta, Georgia
Considering an Atlanta wedding?
The AAA 4-diamond Renaissance Waverly Hotel is the setting for some of
the city's most elegant affairs. Lovetripper recently interviewed Kristin
Bedwell, Senior Catering Sales Manager of this expansive property, for
her tips on marrying in this full-service hotel. Kristin, like other planners
interviewed in this monthly column, has passed the Marriott
International Wedding Certification Program. Kristin also gives
us her tips on hotels as a one-stop
wedding center.
What aspects
of your property are most attractive to brides?
The Renaissance Waverly is a beautiful 14-story atrium hotel. Many brides
enjoy holding their cocktail reception in our Atrium to take advantage
of the serene setting and natural lighting. The hotel is also nestled
in the Galleria Gardens, so there are beautiful areas for outdoor ceremonies
or non-alcoholic receptions. We also have a picturesque grand staircase
that allows brides to make a breath-taking entrance.
What are the most popular wedding venues at the
property, both for large and small weddings?
Our Habersham Ballroom, with 19-foot ceilings, gorgeous chandeliers and
classic decor, is a picture perfect ballroom for couples expecting 250-350
guests. Guests walk through our spacious, sky lit Garden Court to enter
the Habersham Ballroom, and many couples hold their cocktail reception
just outside the ballroom when the Atrium is unavailable. Our Kennesaw
Ballroom, located just off of the Atrium, is ideal for 125- 225 guests,
and our Chancellor room is perfect for 60 to 80 guests.

What
local elements can a bride add to her wedding to give it a regional atmosphere?
The Renaissance Waverly Hotel is located in Atlanta, Georgia, which is
the heart of the South so many brides add a southern touch to their weddings.
Georgia is known for peaches, and we find that it is a popular accent
color for spring and summer weddings. Although most brides stay fairly
traditional for their wedding reception, we are finding that rehearsal
dinners are becoming slightly more casual and many are incorporating a
theme. For the Southern theme, many choose to offer butler passed Bellinis
and create a southern style menu with warm Georgia Peach Tart and Pecans
for dessert. Since many guests travel from out of town, this provides
an opportunity for them to experience our delectable cuisine and southern
hospitality.
For
brides planning a weekend wedding, what nearby attractions or on property
activities are of special interest for their guests?
Throughout the year, there are several local attractions for guests to
enjoy. Six Flags over Georgia and White Water are great attraction parks
for the families; for the outdoor enthusiasts, Kennesaw Mountain is a
wonderful place to hike and picnic; Vinings Jubilee is a fabulous location
for upscale shopping, restaurants and an evening out with friends. The
Renaissance Pine Isle Resort at Lake Lanier and Stone Mountain Park require
a short drive, but are wonderful destinations for friends and family to
relax and enjoy Atlanta.
