Staying Secure When You Arrive

continued from Romantic Travel in High Security Times

You've planned the honeymoon of your dreams and now you're on the road, ready to live out the fantasy you've been planning for months.

While the two of you have far more interesting things to focus on that security, you want to take certain precautions so that you can put that worry largely out of sight, freeing up your mind to concentrate on each other and a wonderful vacation. Here are some steps to take to make sure you have a safe honeymoon or getaway:

Stay away from large gatherings including political events, protests, etc.

Know the laws in the land you're traveling. Did you know that it's illegal to take photos of bridges and airports in some countries due to security concerns? Little things like that can definitely spoil a trip. Know before you go.

Report any unattended baggage. Yes, you've heard it over the airport speakers a million times before, but this is an important one!

Don't advertise your nationality. On our first trip to Egypt, we were advised to leave Nikes, Levis, and other readily identifiable American brands at home. We won't even talk about red, white, and blue clothing. While standing in airport lines, keep your passport in your purse until you need it. And, perhaps most importantly, don't speak too loudly. An American accent is easier to point out than Nikes and far more telling.
