Honeymooning in the Poconos: An Interview With Tracy Getz, Honeymoon Concierge at Caesars Pocono Palace

Considering a honeymoon in the Poconos? In this column, we talk with Tracy Getz, Honeymoon Concierge at Caesars Pocono Palace, one of Caesars Pocono Resorts, for her advice to couples planning a honeymoon in this magical region.

The Poconos has a long history in the world of honeymooners; can you tell us what has drawn couples to this region for so long?

The word "Poconos" is synonymous with love, and over 15,000 honeymooners visit Caesars Pocono Resorts each year! The Poconos were introduced to the world by Life magazine in 1971 when they took a photo of our heart-shaped whirlpool bath-for-two. The breathtaking atmosphere of the Pocono Mountains has also attracted honeymoons from all over with all types of interests. Each season has attractions for the adventure seeking couples, to the couples looking for just romance and relaxation.

How have the needs and demands of honeymooners changed since those early days and how does Caesars Pocono Resorts meet those needs?

Many honeymooners are paying for their own weddings these days (and wedding packages have certainly gone up) as well as most couples are both working full time jobs, which is very different from years past. These circumstances make planning the wedding extremely stressful for the bride and groom. When they come on their honeymoon, they are looking to be pampered and to relax with each other. We meet these needs by not only fulfilling their expectations, by also exceeding them and creating life long memories.

What is a Honeymoon Concierge, and what sets you apart from a traditional concierge?

A traditional concierge is available for any questions or assistance needed after check-in. As a Honeymoon Concierge, our contact with the couple starts two months prior to their honeymoon. We send them a letter introducing ourselves, letting them know we are here for them if they wish to contact us about make any special arrangements or to plan anything while they will be here. We also call them three weeks before coming to let them know the weather, special activities, theme nights and any other information they need. Upon check-in we orient them with the resort and area attractions and send them to their room with special gifts (fire log, bubble bath, champagne and honeymoon album) to start their relaxing honeymoon off just right. We have special activities just for the honeymooners as well, such as the Honeymoon Welcome Celebration and Honeymoon Dinner. Our goal is to make sure every honeymoon couple leaves our resorts with lasting memories and wanting to return.

What special romantic touches can you help arrange for a couple during their stay?

We have an extensive list of valued gift items available for purchase to add that special touch to the romantic suites. Sometimes the couple will purchase this for one another, and other times friends and family members will surprise the couple by sending it to them. These gift items range from different food platters to romance and love baskets to champagne or wine. Decorating the room with flowers and rose petals is another wonderful touch to these rooms.

How can couples carry a romantic spirit all through their day, from dining to activities together?

They begin their day with breakfast-in-bed, and then they can either participate in any of our social directed activities, all geared towards couples, or they can simply relax and spend time in their amazing and unique honeymoon suite. Whether they decide to spend the day together on a boat, enjoy a romantic horse drawn carriage ride around property, or holding hands while walking around our nature trail, the romance continues morning to night. We also have photographers on property to capture these romantic moments.

For couples that would like to get out and explore the region, what special activities and attractions are of special interest to romantics?

There is so much to do right here at Caesars Pocono Resorts, and when a couple stays at one resort, they have use of all of the four resorts facilities as part of our Key Around Club (Stay at one, play at all four). However, it is so wonderful to be located in an area where there are so many attractions close to the resorts. When you talk to couples about what they enjoy about our area attractions, they’ll tell you about horseback riding, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, skiing, snowmobiling, driving a race car at Pocono raceway, hiking through the waterfalls at Bushkill Falls and shopping at all the outlets and candle factories, all within minutes from the resorts. Some couples even enjoy a day in New York City, since we are very close.
