Romantic
Houston
Caught up in the SuperBowl
attention paid to Houston? For all its sporting activities, this
Texas-sized city is home to plenty of romantic activities as well.
Grab your sweetie and take a spin around the Bayou City with these
recommended stops:
Visit the Reflecting Pool in Hermann Square (located
in front of City Hall), the perfect place for a talk. Next, stroll
over to Tranquility Park, perfect in the evenings when the tall
golden fountains are lit.
Stroll through the Cullen Sculpture Garden at the
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; its often called the most
beautiful acre in Houston.
Got a gemstone in your future? Check out some of the world's
rarest and beautiful gems in the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals
at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Dont miss
the Cockrell Butterfly Center housing over 2,000 live, free-flying
butterflies within its glass pyramid.
Sneak a kiss in the mist at the Williams Waterwall at
the Houston Museum of Natural Science (its a local favorite
with love birds.)
Does your sweetie send you in orbit? Visit the Space Center
Houston, 25 miles south of downtown Houston via I-45, for
an out of this world experience. Lots of hands on displays bring
out the kid in the two of you.
Stroll hand in hand at the Houston Arboretum & Nature
Center, located in Memorial Park. The many native plants of
Houston are showcased in this quiet park; there's also a wildlife
refuge here.
Catch a play at The Alley Theater, located in the
Theater District. This theater, which dates back to 1947, offers
a balcony with a view of the city skyline and is home to one of
the three oldest resident professional companies in the country.
In 1996 the company was awarded a Tony Award as an outstanding
regional theater.
Take an exotic trip--without a passport--at the Japanese
Gardens in Hermann Park. The park is also adjacent to the
Museum District, home to many of the city's best museums.
Stroll the gardens of the Bayou Bend Collection and
Gardens, part of the Museum of Fine Arts. Behind the home,
the 14-acre gardens are divided into eight areas ranging from
a formal garden to a butterfly garden.
