Valentine
Romance in Colorado Springs
by Eleanor S. Morris
Don't head for the
hills for St. Valentine's Day--head for the mountains! The famous
Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs is offering a fabulous Romantic
Escape to delight you and your sweetheart with a night to remember,
as a prelude, or maybe an interlude, to however many nights you
want to capture or recapture romance.
Romantic Escape nights are February 13, 14 20 and 21, so plan
your honeymoon or your romance around one of these dates, because
they include an evening of dinner and listening to some of the
greatest love songs of all time. Broadmoor troubadour Philip
Myers recreates music from Nat King Cole to Celine Dion, Barry
Manilow, Whitney Houston and many more.
Included in the package are a Classic Guest Room, the dinner show
tickets, a bottle of Korbel California Champagne, Chocolate Covered
Strawberries, a 20% Broadmoor retail discount and a 20% Broadmoor
Spa discount.
While
at the beautiful Broadmoor on the days preceding or after your
special evening, do some romantic touring of the sights of beautiful
Colorado Springs. You won't want to miss America's best-known
mountain, Pike's Peak, snowcapped at 14,440 feet. Take the delightful
Pike's Peak Cog Railway and when you reach the summit you'll see
Denver, 60 miles north and, 100 miles away, the Sangre de Cristo
Mountains pushing into New Mexico. There's also the Steamer Shop
for souvenirs of this special Valentine outing, and the Cog Wheel
Cafe for tasty sustenance (to help keep that lovelight burning?)
From
on high you can also catch a glimpse of the Garden of the Gods,
which you might explore next. One of the most photographed places
in the country and one of the world's great natural wonders, this
gallery of amazing rock sculptures was created more than 300 million
years ago, by violent geologic forces. You'll see fantastic formations
more than 300 feet high, as well as the spectacular monoliths
Balanced Rock, and, Kissing Camels!
Down the road apiece to Canon City, take a look, carefully, down
into the Royal Gorge, eroded over the millennia to a depth of
1,055 feet by the rough waters of the Arkansas River. The Royal
Gorge is spanned by the highest suspension bridge in the world.
Here you'll find two wildly exciting rides, an aerial tram slipping
through 1/2 mile of space 1,200 feet above the river, or aboard
an incline railway down the dizzy heights of the canyon walls.
Before or after that delicious Broadmoor St. Valentine dinner
check out the Wild West (after all, you're in the vicinity) at
Colorado Spring's Ghost Town Museum. Explore the Saloon, the Sheriff's
Office, Barber Shop, Blacksmith, Jail, Print Shop, General Stores,
Victorian Home and a wonderful collection of antiques and memorabilia
from the rough-and- tumble days of the Wild West.
