LUIS
MIGUEL BIOGRAPHY Affectionately referred to as "El Idolo (The Idol)", Luis Miguel has been worshipped by adoring fans for the past two decades for his sophisticated stage persona and mastery of romantic ballads, or boleros. Thrust into the limelight at an early age, Luis began his career starring in a string of Spanish-language movies and performing upbeat pop tunes, all aimed at an adolescent market. His talent allowed him to break free from a teenage heartthrob image, however, and he has since been the recipient of four Grammy awards.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Mexico, Luis Miguel has thusfar eschewed a crossover career, preferring to remain loyal to the language of his homeland. He has succumbed to the temptation to sing in English only once, blending his voice with that of Frank Sinatra on a rendition of "Come Fly With Me" from the legendary crooner's "Duets II" album. As he holds the title of the first Latin recording artist to achieve gold-record status in the United States for an album entirely in Spanish, Luis Miguel has proven that love can be understood in any language. ROMANCES In 1997's aptly-titled Romances, the third in a series of bolero compilations, Luis Miguel unveils the heart of a man in love. Beginning with the CDs opening track, "Voy A Apagar La Luz" ("I'm Going To Turn Off The Light"), the tale of a young romantic only capable of professing his feelings in dreams, he moves on to a mature outlook on love with the smoldering "Por Debajo de la Mesa" ("Underneath The Table"),and in a later track ,"La Gloria Eres Tu" ("You Are The Glory"), he has found a his heavenly reward wrapped in his lover's arms.
