Ideas for a romantic getaway on this Caribbean island

Introduction
Anguilla's beauty
is not as flashy as some of the more tropical Caribbean islands
that are illuminated with nearly neon displays of flowers. Here,
the landscape is flat and fairly featureless, covered with low
growing flora and fauna
that fights to take hold in the sandy soil.
But that's certainly not to say that Anguilla (pronounced Ann-GWIL-ah)
is without beauty. This tiny island is the king of the Caribbean
beach world, a mecca for beach buffs
in search of that perfect stretch of sand. Although only 16
miles from end to end and little more than 35 square miles in
all, the island packs in over 30 beaches and numerous nearby
cays to tempt sunlovers, snorkelers, sailors, scuba divers,
and those just looking for a good beach walk or hike. A few
beaches bustle with activity but most are quiet and interruption-free,
just pristine boundaries between land and sea.
Anguilla's other beauty comes in the form of her people. Perhaps
one of the friendliest islands in the entire Caribbean, Anguillians
pride themselves on their hospitality. Local residents greet
cars with a wave and exchange "good morning" greetings
with those they meet. Crime is as rare as you can find anywhere
and, if you get lost, just pull over and ask for help. There's
a welcoming spirit here that's shared with visitors and instantly
makes travelers feel right at home.
Expect a quiet atmosphere on this island, no matter when you
visit. This is not the destination of budget charters or cruise
ships. It's an island secret that's guarded by a precious few
and a treasure protected by a hefty price tag. The island aims
for the upper market traveler, who is not shocked by three figure
dinner tabs and per night accommodation rates equal to those
found in three or four-night budget packages on some other islands.
