You have your family traditions. Your sweetie has his. Whether they involve the Christmas music you always play while you decorate the tree, the holiday fudge you always make and give to the neighbors, or the wreath you always make for the front door, these traditions help define the holidays.

But establishing your own traditions together is an especially important, and romantic, part of being a couple. New couples especially will enjoy establishing their own special holiday traditions. Here are some ideas for making your "own" holiday traditions as a couple:

• start a tradition of baking a pie together each year
  
• pick "our song" — your favorite carol
  
• start a tradition of renting a favorite holiday movie every year
  
• begin a tradition of "our night" — one night you set aside during the busy holidays as a romantic date to be enjoyed together and alone
• start a tradition of celebrating Boxing Day—the day after Christmas
• celebrate the German tradition of Zweite Weihnachten on December 26th, a day enjoyed with friends
• make a tradition of a "wrapping afternoon." The two of you can share the task of wrapping presents, a job eased with some music, wine, or munchies.
• make a special day of putting up your holiday lights and Christmas tree. Prepare a special meal. Take pictures.
