Take
a Shopping
Holiday
from How
to Have A Romantic Holiday
Shopping can be a team sport with a little pre-planning. The two
of you can shop together and combine the event with a day trip
for a mini-vacation that even non-shoppers will enjoy.
Every region has communities that are known for their "shop-portunities."
Arts, crafts, antiques, and one-of-a-kind purchases fill the boutiques
of many communities.
Consider a day trip to one of these shopping communities for a
combined day trip and holiday shopping spree. However, to make
this more than a shopping marathon, set aside some time for romance.
You can book a night in a local bed and breakfast for a cozy end
to your shopping day. You can visit a local winery (and pick up
some local product) for someone on your list then take a tour
and tasting. The two of you can plan a nice lunch or dinner out
to break up your shopping and to give you some time to talk.
Here are some other shopping options to turn your holiday shopping
errands into a day trip vacation:

- Christmas markets.
Check
your local paper for holiday markets sponsored by the Junior
League, local artists groups, and other groups.
- outlet malls.
Usually located on the outskirts of major cities, these outlet
malls can keep the two of you shopping for days.
- local art galleries.
Make your own driving trail from town to town to shop for local
arts or crafts.
- local foods.
Do a little
research on local products, perfect for gifts for out of town
relatives and friends. Create your own day trip with a drive
to visit a local winery, hot sauce factory, candy factory, or
candle factory.
The main point to
remember on a shopping holiday is to keep the holiday spirit alive.
Dont shop til you drop! Unless both of you are die-hard
shoppers, plan for a few hours of shopping then treat yourselves.
