Gatlinburg Sky Lift
The Sky Lift is almost a symbol of Gatlinburg,
a scenic way to look at the region that can't be beat. Dating back to
the 1950s, the Sky LIft has sent generations of Gatlinburg visitors soaring.
What should you expect? You'll enter the
lift in town; staff members help you as the lift comes around behind you
and you sit as it comes by. A bar will come down over your lap to give
you the feeling of security.
It's a quiet ride up to the overlook, across
the Little Pigeon River and the Riverwalk on the way. As you start the
lift up the mountain, look back for a spectacular view of Gatlinburg.
At the top, you'll have a digital photo made just moments before you get
off; those photos are available for purchase at the top (see ours, below).
At the top, you'll find telescopes for a closeup
view of the city below as well as a gift store and snack bar. When you're
ready, hop a lift down for the relaxing return to town.
We love the Sky Lift and try to do it every
visit to Gatlinburg. (While we love it, we wouldn't recommend it to parents
with young, squirmy children; that bar that comes down over your lap is
not enough to secure young children if they won't be still.)
