Ober Gatlinburg
Located high above Gatlinburg, this area serves as a winter
ski resort and summer fun center. The best way to reach Ober Gatlinburg
is by the aerial tram,
the largest in the country. This enclosed, 120-person tram whisks both
skiers and sightseers up to Mt. Harrison.
During the winter months, this area has the longest chairlift
in the South, carrying skiers up to the pinnacle of Mt. Harrison. Equipment
rentals and lessons are available for all levels of skiers.
Non-skiers find plenty of activity as well. There's a jumbo
shopping area with handicrafts and touristy items, an indoor skating rink,
an arcade and a few snack shops. Summer visitors find a somewhat sad looking
bear habitat, go-kart track, water rides, bungee jump, and even an alpine
slide (pictured above).
If you're not a skier, the best reason to us to visit Ober
Gatlinburg is the scenic ride up; it is a longer ride than the Sky
Lift and accessible rain or shine.
