When
in: Rome When in Rome, do as
the Romans do. Sip cappucino at an outdoor café. Shop for
the latest fashions--and dress like you're about to hit the catwalk
any minute now. And, by all means, engage in public displays of
affection anyplace, anytime, for any reason. It's all just part
of being in Rome. And, in between those PDAs, don't miss: The Colosseum--Well,
Russell Crowe's no longer there, but you'll still want to tour
this symbol of ancient Rome. (Arrive early during peak summer
months or you'll spend half your day in line!) The Forum--Adjacent
to the Colosseum, these ruins make ancient Rome come to life.
(Cat lovers, don't miss the furry felines that populate this ancient
part of the city.) Spanish
Steps--Stroll hand in hand down these historic steps and think
of the famous writers such as Lord Byron, Balzac, Thackeray, and
others who once followed these same steps. Nearby, don't miss
Bernini's Fountain of the Barcaccia in the piazza. Vatican
City--Regardless of your beliefs, Vatican City is a must.
Stroll St. Peter's Square and the church itself, then marvel at
Michelangelo's Pieta in the sanctuary as well as his Sistene Chapel. Trevi Fountain--You
don't have to take a dip a la Three Coins in the Fountain but
you definitely must throw a coin in. Stand with your back to the
fountain and toss--it will ensure that you will return to Rome.
What better investment can you make? Piazza Navona--Grab a seat at one of the sidewalk cafes and watch Rome go by. The Piazza is also known for its statues, especially Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers. The Pantheon--It's
not huge, but this ancient building is definitely one of Rome's
most impressive (and there's a lot of competition for that title.)
Built around 120AD, a stop here is a must. Via Condotti--This is the shopping street of Rome, the best place to pick up an Armani suit or a Gucci bag. Or just window show and dream |
