US Virgin Islands Fast Facts

Best Time of Year to Visit
Mid-December through mid-April is the peak season to visit (and also the most expensive). The weeks around the holiday period are always in demand, with a slight dip in prices in early January. During these months, the weather in USVI is generally great, there's no risk of hurricanes, and the island is the perfect getaway from cold temperatures elsewhere.

The cheapest time to visit is during hurricane season, June through the end of November. Prices fall to all-time lows during September and early October, the peak months for hurricanes.

Climate
The average annual temperature is 82 degrees Fahrenheit, but expect temperatures to be hotter during afternoon hours (and feel much hotter because of nasty humidity levels.) Fortunately, the islands are blessed with trade winds that keep you from sweltering no matter what time of year.

Credit Cards
Major credit cards are accepted around the islands.

Currency
US dollar

Dress
Swimsuits are appropriate only for swimming; when off the beach grab a cover up. Bare chests are also frowned upon outside the beach. However, leisure wear -- T-shirts, shorts, sundresses and sandals--will be readily accepted.

Electricity
Throughout the islands, you'll find 110 volts. Standard American plugs are used.

Entry Requirements
US citizens need proof of identity upon airport check-in, but incoming travelers do not need to pass through immigration when they reach St. Thomas. Americans can also travel to nearby St. John and St. Croix from St. Thomas without proof of citizenship. It's a good idea to bring along your passport, however, in case you decide to take a day trip to the nearby British Virgin Islands.

Getting There
International airports are found on St. Thomas and St. Croix; both offer direct flights from the US as well as other destinations. To reach St. John, you'll fly to St. Thomas and take a ferry from the community of Red Hook across to Cruz Bay, St. John.
