Fast Facts: Bahamas Getting Around: With driving on the left, taxi and limo service are the top way to get around these islands. Rates are set by the government. Car rental desks are available at the airport and major hotels. Plan on plenty of traffic within Nassau, however, and don't forget that you'll be driving on the left. Entry Requirements: U.S. and Canadian citizens need to show proof of citizenship in the form of a passport, or other proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate. Visitors must also show a return airline ticket. Voter registration cards are not accepted as a proof of citizenship. Visas are not required for stays shorter than eight months.
Currency: The currency is the Bahamian dollar, which is on par with the US dollar. US currency is also widely accepted. Dress: The islands are casual; you'll be comfortable in shorts and t-shirts during the day. Evenings on the Out Islands are generally more casual than those on Grand Bahama Island or New Providence (Nassau); only a few of the dressiest restaurants in the major tourist areas will require jacket and tie.
