Prague for Lovers

With its historic buildings, arched bridges, and walkable, Old World atmosphere, Prague makes an easy choice for romantic travelers. Since the Czech Republic was admitted into the European Union in 2004, Prague has been drawing an increasing number of travelers who come for its mix of history and hipness.

A favorite with budget travelers in the 90s, the city still offers lower prices than those found in many other European destinations. That, along with the ease of travel found in Western Europe combined with the edginess of Eastern Europe, makes this a top destination for romantic travelers. According to Rick Steves, "Travel in Prague is like travel in western Europe—15 years ago and for half the price."

Those lower prices—along with its allure as a destination formerly behind the Iron Curtain—have helped tourism grow. Prague, with its 1.2 million population, was first a curiosity for travelers with the opening of the city in 1994. Today the city lures lovers with a mix of architectural styles, a medley of cuisines, and a smorgasbord of cultures.
