Eiffel Tower Proposals

Tom Cruise did it. So did Rod Stewart. How would you like to get engaged in Paris at the Eiffel Tower?

The symbol of the world's most romantic city makes a picture perfect spot for proposals both night and day year around. You'll have you choice of several locations throughout the tower to pop the question, from a gourmet restaurant to observation decks to a seasonal ice skating rink. Here's a look at the Eiffel Tower locations and tips for planning the perfect proposal at this symbol of romance:

Restaurants: The Eiffel Tower is home to two restaurants: Altitude95 on the first level and Le Jules Verne on the second level (accessible by private elevator.) Altitude95 is a tourist restaurant and far more affordable that the upstairs eatery. You'll find tour operators offering dinners and transfers to Altitude95 but check the details carefully; generally the tour groups are seated together (not conducive to proposals!)

More romantic (and far more expensive) is Le Jules Verne, located on the second level. Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes in this fine dining restaurant; reservations are suggested far in advance. (If you haven't thought ahead, ask your hotel concierge for help.) For reservations at Le Jules Verne, call 33 (0)1 45 55 61 44 or fax 33 (0)1 47 05 29 41. (Reservations are not accepted by email.)

Observation Decks: You'll find observation decks on the first and second level as well as both indoor and outdoor levels on the top level. You can opt for stairs or an elevator for the first and second level (hey, spring for the elevator...you want to be breathless from excitement, not from climbing the Eiffel Tower!); the top level is only accessible by elevator from the second level. Plan on a wait--and maybe a long one--for the elevator during the peak summer months. Also, bags may be checked when entering the Eiffel Tower so pack that surprise engagement ring accordingly!

Ice Skating Rink: From early December to the beginning of February, the Eiffel Tower is home to a temporary ice rink on the first floor platform.

The Eiffel Tower at Night: Definitely the dreamiest view of the tower is at night, especially the first ten minutes of every hour from dusk until 2am (or 1am in the winter months) when the tower literally twinkles with glittering lights. Like a giant birthday candle, the Eiffel Tower sparkles and creates a memory you'll never forget.
