Coach class (sometimes called Economy Class) refers to the main cabin on the plane where most of the seats are found. This is the cheapest category of seats (although you'd be surprised how many different prices people in the same cabin paid, depending on where and when they booked their ticket.) It's also the most crowded category of seats on the plane, with sometimes as many as five or more seats across a center section. Meal service in coach can be very limited (and sometimes nonexistent) on some flights, depending on length. Plan ahead and carry on some snacks (or even a sack lunch). Coach seats are just fine for short flights. And, although the coach class can be crowded, you can do a little pre-planning to try to maximize your seat. Ask what the "seat configuration" of the plane is...does it have a two-seat side? Does it have any two-seat rows (sometimes a plane will have three-seat rows but one two-seat row in bulkhead or the emergency row)? Related terms: Business class, First class |
