Your carry-on luggage refers to the baggage you'll actually carry onto the plane with you. The rules regarding the size of the bag(s) and the number of the bag(s) will depend on whether you're taking a domestic or international flight, flying first class or coach, the size of the plane, and your destination. On average, you can carry a single suitcase no larger than 19 inches tall...but check with your airline for specific tickness and maximum weight. You'll find that international flights overseas will have smaller maximums. If you try to board with a bag that's too large, you'll have to gate check the bag, checking it at the airplane cabin door, to later be picked up with checked luggage. Related terms: checked baggage
