Bulkhead Row

The bulkhead row on the airplane is one in which you face a wall, either the side of the gallery or restroom or the divider between seating classes.

Bulkhead seats can be great on long flights because the two of you can stretch your legs (and there's no one ahead of you to recline in your lap!)

Drawbacks?

  • families with babies are often seated in bulkhead so it might not be the quietest row on the plane
  • you often have no storage room in front of you for a purse or pack; it must go in the overhead for takeoffs and landings
  • crowds may try to congregate if you are near the restroom
  • if the cabin has a large TV screen, you may be sitting too close to see it

Related terms: Emergency exit row
