Boutique Hotels

Small, intimate hotels appeal to many lovers. Boutique hotels are one-of-a-kind properties that emphasize lots of personal attention, plenty of special touches ranging from unique baths (like Anse Chastanet's three-walled open-air showers) to guest rooms which are each unique (like Cancun's Baccara).

The advantage of a boutique hotel are:

  • plenty of personalized attention. The staff will often known you by name within hours of arrival.
  • The chance to feel like a name, not a room number.
  • A one-of-a-kind stay, different from any other hotel where the two of you may have stayed before (either together or with previous partners.)
  • Plenty of ways to personalize your trip. You won't be limited to packages--if you'd like something, ask for it and it can often be arranged, whether that means petals on your bed, a special dish, or dinner for two on the beach.

The disadvantages of a boutique hotel are:

  • Room prices will generally be higher than those found at more mainstream properties.
  • Some couples might feel boutique hotels are a little too small, with the same people around the pool, the same staff members, etc.
  • On-site dining and entertainment options can be limited.
