A Romantic Thanksgiving for Two
By Paris Permenter and John Bigley

When the holiday season rolls around, the images of family, friends, and celebration always come out. But what if the two of you are spending Thanksgiving alone this year?

Give thanks.

Sure family Thanksgivings are great fun but let’s be honest—you know the stresses that can come from huge family get-togethers. Having a romantic Thanksgiving together can be a great option and one that you shouldn’t dread but celebrate.

What should you do with your holiday? Thanksgiving is the busiest travel season of the year—specifically the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday afterwards. Whether by road or air, you’ll find a lot of competition on those days.

But some flexibility in your travel plans can spell success. Travel Thanksgiving Day itself for good airfares and lighter traffic. Remember, before December 15 remains low season in the Caribbean so this can be a good time to make one last run south for a burst of warm weather for a few romantic days.

Staying closer to home? Here are a few choices:

  • Make Thanksgiving a romantic meal. No one says you have to go the traditional route. Put on your slinky best, light the candles, and even through in an aphrodisiac or two for a memorable holiday at home.
  • Go out on Thanksgiving. Splurge and enjoy a feast at a local restaurant, maybe one you’ve always wanted to try. No dishes to wash! End the day by hitting the theaters to see one of the hot Thanksgiving flicks.
  • Spend the night out. Check into a local hotel or B&B and enjoy a mini-vacation! Have your Thanksgiving meal out then feel like travelers in your own hometown for a day or two.

Most of all, enjoy each other’s company. That is truly something for which to be thankful.
