Who: Singer
Sting and Trudie Styler When: August
22, 1992 Where: The
ceremony took place at an 11th century chapel in Wiltshire,
England. The Ceremony:
The steady rhythm of horses' hooves heralded the arrival
of the bride, who sat astride her equestrian transport as the
groom held on to the reigns, guiding the steed to an 11th century
house of worship near the couple's Wiltshire home. Although
united in marriage in a civil ceremony held days prior, the
pair dreamed of an elaborate celebration filled with family
and friends to consecrate their long-term love. Two hundred
and fifty guests, including Peter Gabriel and former Eagles
frontman and environmental activist Don Henley watched as the
children of the bride and groom walked in procession down the
aisle before their parents. The Dress:
Before his untimely death in 1997, designer Gianni Versace garbed
the world's fashionistas, ranging from rock royalty to a true
princess, and on this August day the fashion icon was on hand
to help the bride feel like a queen as she slipped into a work
of art which took several workers forty-five days to create.
The off the shoulder ballgown was constructed of white satin,
with petticoats to create a voluminous effect and intricately
hand-embroidered golden roses and flourishes woven throughout
the bodice and hemline. To harmonize with the gown, Trudie chose
a gold headpiece, to which a diaphanous veil was attached. The
groom's Versace ensemble continued the gold thread motif with
scrolled patterns embroidered on a black and white striped vest,
which was covered by a black jacket, to which two crimson roses
were fashioned for a boutonniere. The Reception:
Near the mystical grounds of Stonehenge lies Lake House, Sting
(aka Gordon Sumner) and Trudie's Elizabethan mansion, which
echoed with the music of The Police, joining together one more
time in an evening of revelry and reconciliation. Guests partied
until four in the morning on sea bass and creme brulee. Special Touches: Wanting to share in their good fortune, the newlyweds offered their wedding attire to the highest bidder at an auction, with all proceeds of the sale going to The Rainforest Foundation, an organization close to the couple's hearts.
