Who: actress
Annette O' Toole ("Smallville") and actor Michael
McKean ("Laverne and Shirley", "This Is Spinal
Tap")
When: March 20, 1999
Where: The Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California
The Ceremony: Symbolic of a new beginning, Michael and Annette
chose the first day of spring for their nuptials. Thirty guests,
including the couple's children from previous marriages, the
groom's "Laverne and Shirley" co-star David Lander,
and his "Spinal Tap" cohorts Harry Shearer and Christopher
Guest, who acted as best man, converged at the Regal Biltmore
Hotel, which lives up to its majestic moniker with a design
reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance and a ballroom ceiling
decorated by an artist whose work is immortalized in the Vatican.
As is the case with
many intimate weddings, a close friend was elected to photograph
the event. The shutterbug who captured this couple's special
day for posterity was none other than actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
The Dress: The bride may play The Man of Steel's mother
on the small screen, but the "Smallville" actress
realized that it doesn't have to take superhuman effort to look
your best on your wedding day. The price tag for Annette's ensemble,
a powder blue dress with a sheer overlay that was purchased
directly off of a store mannequin, was a down-to-earth $49.
The bride held a nosegay of blushing pink roses gathered with
a silk ribbon and wore her auburn hair down. The groom opted
for a classic black business suit.
The Reception: Ceramic store teapots, a memento for
everyone in attendance, were lovingly hand-painted by the bride's
family and filled with one of five different brews
during a tea ceremony following the exchange of vows.
