Lleyton Hewitt and Bec Cartwright Marry in Sydney

Who: tennis star Lleyton Hewitt and TV actress Bec Cartwright ("Home and Away")

When: July 21, 2005

Where: Vows were exchanged inside the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia.

The Proposal: When Cupid's arrow struck Lleyton Hewitt it took the tennis star just six weeks before realizing that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with his new lady love. On the night of his loss at the Australian Open Lleyton knelt down in Melbourne Park, proposing with a $200,000 round-cut Tiffany engagement ring.

The Ceremony: The strings of a harp were plucked to the tune of the bridal march as Bec Cartwright made her way down a snow white carpet toward her intended, who stayed by her side during a 30-minute ceremony which included prayers for the couple and poetry recited by members of their respective families. At the conclusion of the service, guests boarded catamarans for a one hour trip across Sydney Harbor on their way to the reception at the Taronga Zoo.

The Dress: Carrying a bouquet of pink plumeria, which is referred to as frangipani in Australia, the bride made a dramatic entrance at the Sydney Opera House in an Alex Perry creation of Swiss silk georgette embellished with crystals along the plunging V neckline, which was supported with delicate spaghetti straps.

Alex Perry utilized matching material for the bridesmaids dresses, which were strapless designs bathed in a warm palette of colors ranging from pink to yellow. Bouquets comprised of white plumeria completed the look.
Both the groom and his attendants donned dark business suits by Zegna, which were paired with pale pink ties. To harmonize with his bride, a pink plumeria boutonniere was added to the groom's ensemble.

The Reception: Although she had just been pronounced Lleyton's wife, the bride was still Daddy's little girl, and emotions ran high on the upper tier of the function room at Taronga Zoo during the father/daughter dance as Bec swayed with her parent to the nostalgic song "Butterfly Kisses" before her first dance with her husband to the country-tinged tune "Amazed" by Lonestar. The musical melodies continued with a performance by Australian recording artist John Farnham, who entertained guests as they dined on such delicacies as prawn salad with avocado, chicken with sichuan pepper, roast king fish, pepper steak, and roast pumpkin and mascarpone ravioli served over braised artichokes. Planet Cake provided a sweet ending to the banquet with an eight-tier wedding cake composed of a decadent combination of light and dark chocolate beneath frosting festooned with sugar roses interspersed with plumeria.

The Honeymoon: After spending their first night as Mr. and Mrs. at the Hotel InterContinental, the newlyweds embarked on a romantic getaway on Bedarra Island, a resort along the Great Barrier Reef which offers 16 secluded villas.
