Who: contemporary
jazz singer Harry Connick Jr. and model Jill Goodacre When: April
16, 1994 Where: St.
Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana The Bachelor
Party: Antoine's Restaurant, an area landmark since 1840,
was a fitting choice for the New Orleans native to say farewell
to the single life. The fine eating establishment offers French-Creole
cuisine in a setting adorned with framed photos of its famous
patrons, including Judy Garland and Franklin Roosevelt. The Ceremony: "The Union Must and Shall Be Preserved". This phrase
is carved at the base of a statue of Andrew Jackson, which stands
guard over Jackson Square and the trinity of spires atop St.
Louis Cathedral, where the couple chose to unite in The Dress:
While the former Victoria's Secret model wore revealing outfits
during her modeling career, a traditional white satin gown by
Valentino was chosen for the bride's walk down the aisle. Constructed
according to the bride's wishes, the dress was accented by raised
white polka dots on the short sleeves and was complimented by
the inclusion of white opera gloves and a full-length veil.
A slight hint of color was added with a bouquet of pale peach
roses tied together with an ivory-colored ribbon. The groom
opted for an Armani morning suit. The Reception: The singer took his new Texas-born bride on a rose-bedecked horse and buggy ride through the streets of his hometown before arriving at Gallier Hall, a locale with a history tinged with both happiness and tragedy. Known as the site of many of the city's most prestigious events, it is also famous as the final resting place of Jefferson Davis and General Beauregard. As classical music echoed in the Greek Revival-style edifice, guests dined on typical New Orleans dishes. Following the festivities, the couple jetted off on their Caribbean honeymoon.
