couple recited their vows at Guards Chapel in Birdcage Walk
in London, England. The Ceremony:
Over eight hundred guests, including the Queen Mother and Princess
Anne, who had once been wooed by the groom, were on hand to
witness the culmination of a seven year romance in holy matrimony.
After the service, the newly betrothed couple exited the chapel
to the blare of trumpets as they walked beneath the gleam of
a sword arch. The Dress:
Clutching a cascading bouquet of white lilies, the bride met
her intended at the altar in a white Belville Sassoon confection
with ruffled trim along the neckline and hem. A ten-foot-long
veil was attached to a delicate tiara which rested upon her
blonde locks, worn natural for the occasion. The groom opted
for a morning suit, which was embellished with a carnation boutonniere.
A parade of children
marched down the aisle ahead of the bride, with the boys in
miniature naval uniforms. The girls, in full-length gowns closely
resembling the bride's attire, carried baskets of blossoms and
wore wreaths of flowers in their hair to enhance their cherubic
appeal. The Reception:
It was a short journey for guests from Guards Chapel, which
had been restored in the 1960s after sustaining extensive damage
during World War II, to St. James Club, where Princess Margaret
