Israel: Near
the close of her week-long vacation in Israel, pop-superstar,
Whitney Houston, traveled
to the Galilee yesterday to be baptized in the River Jordan. Houston,
accompanied by her husband, singer Bobby
Brown, and their 10-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina,
arrived in Israel on May 25, 2003.
In addition to what Houston characterizes as a "spiritual
retreat" in the Red Sea resort of Eilat, the three visited
friends and family among the African-American "Black Hebrew"
community in the Negev city of Dimona, and visited locations
for the HBO Whitney Houston Israel Christmas Special she will
film in November.
On Monday, Houston flew to Jerusalem to pay a courtesy
call on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. During their meeting, Houston told
the Prime Minister that "Israel is home--it's friendship.
I've never experienced it this way in any other country.
It's absolutely beautiful."
Prior to their trip, the Browns met in Las Vegas with Rami Levi,
Tourism Ambassador of Israel to North and South America, to coordinate
elements both of the visit, and of the HBO Christmas special.
In Jerusalem, Brown also met with Israel's Tourism Minister, Binyamin
Elon, and got a sneak preview of the Ministry's new advertising
campaign to be launched in June in the United States. The campaign's
dual message is "Don't Put Your Soul on Hold" and "Follow
Your Heart to Israel Now." Asked by reporters about his trip,
Brown responded, "We'll bring every one of our friends. And
don't put your soul on hold. You can't!" For more on travel
