Bhutan’s King Marries

The country of Bhutan has been dubbed the happiest place on earth– an apt title as the nation rejoiced at the wedding of a royal romantic.

The longtime love between King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and private citizen Jetsun Pema, which had led to an announcement of an impending “I do” during the opening of Parliament on May 20, 2011, was celebrated at a 17th century monastery in the capital of Punakha on October 13, 2011.

Broadcast on Bhutan television, the country’s citizens were virtual guests to the notable’s nuptials, which began in the monastery’s courtyard before the solemn ceremony concluded inside a temple, where the “Dragon King” presented the queen of his heart with a silk brocade crown, the Washington Post reports.
