As Marilyn Monroe once famously sang, “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” and the person who places the high bid in an upcoming auction of the legendary luminary’s wedding ring will have 35 baguette-cut buddies.
The platinum eternity band, which is expected to sell in the range of $300,000 – $500,000– was presented to the paparazzi magnet by sports star Joe DiMaggio during a simple civil ceremony at the San Francisco City Hall on January 14, 1954. The star-crossed lover’s sparkler be just one of the Hollywood highlights that will go under the hammer at a Profiles in History auction to be held on December 15 – 17, 2011.
The news that the notable’s “I do” item will soon be up for grabs comes just days after the announcement that the dress donned by Elizabeth Taylor for her first walk down the aisle with Richard Burton will go under the gavel at a separate upcoming auction at Christie’s in New York. Reuters reports that the sunshine yellow silk chiffon creation by Irene Sharaff which was worn by the silver screen goddess on her wedding day (March 15, 1964) at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Montreal will be among 400 items of the star’s fashionable finds up for bid at the auction, which will take place December 13 – 16, 2011. The dress is expected to sell at a price ranging between $40,000 and $60,000, with a portion of all sales from the event benefiting The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
