In a few short weeks Althorp will open its doors once again for tourists who wish to reflect on the life of Princess Diana, but on June 18, 2011 the Georgian country home welcomed an intimate band of family of friends who gathered to witness the start of a new chapter in the Spencer family saga as Diana’s brother Charles, Earl Spencer said “I do” to Whole Child International founder Karen Gordon.
A February 2011 engagement paved the way for the couple’s profession of devotion. For her special day the bride chose a lace-embellished gown featuring delicate cap sleeves and a V-neckline. Enhancing the romance of the garment was a bouquet spilling over with white and pale yellow roses interspersed with dainty white blossoms framed by greenery, the Daily Mail reports.
While the happy couple are looking forward to a lifetime together, their Northhamptonshire home has recently undergone extensive restoration efforts in order to preserve the estate’s yesterdays. When sightseers arrive at Althorp for the start of its summer season on July 1st (which would have been Princess Diana’s 50th birthday) they will be greeted by the sight of the fruition of a 22-month conservation project complete with a new roof and newly carved limestone cornices which preserve Althorp’s past for future generations.
