Although it’s tradition to celebrate Cupid once a year, from this day forward every day will be Valentine’s Day for Lady Katie Percy– the eldest daughter of the Duke of Northumberland– who said “I do” to financier Patrick Valentine on February 26, 2011.
In true fairy tale fashion, a coach drawn by two white horses dubbed Hugo and Hero bore the bride from her family home of Alnwick Castle to St. Michael’s Parish Church, where 300 family members and friends– including Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa and Chelsy Davy, the past (and possibly present) love interest of Prince Harry– gathered to wish the couple well, the Northumberland Gazette reports.
While page boys were suited up as tiny soldiers in faux military regalia complete with toy swords and guns, flower girls were the quintessence of innocence in floor-length white dresses accented with scarlet sashes that harmonized with red rose wreaths which formed angelic halos around each girl’s head.
The bride made her grand entrance in a lace-embellished Bruce Oldfield design, which featured a scalloped hemline. The gown was paired with a bolero jacket, and a dainty diadem added an extra touch of storybook romance to the ensemble.
Following the ceremony, yellow rose petals tossed by guests rained down like a blessing over the newlyweds as they exited the church and headed back to Alnwick Castle. Recognized for its performance as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter film franchise, the masterpiece of medieval architectural provided its own brand of magic at the reception.
