Over the course of his career Frank Schleck has traveled the winding roads in cycling races around the globe, and now the Tour de France participant has vowed to travel down life’s road with the woman he loves, Martine Schmid.
Already pronounced husband and wife on New Year’s Eve 2009 in an intimate civil ceremony conducted in Mondor, Luxembourg’s City Hall, the happy couple– who had been an item for nine years– celebrated a religious blessing of their union on August 21, 2010. According to the Luxembourg website Point24, the pair shared the joy of their special day with fellow pro cyclists Fabian Cancellara and Kim Kirchen, who were among those who rose from their seats in the parish church in Mamer, Luxembourg when the bride made her grand entrance.
Following the ceremony, attendants held aloft an arch of bicycle wheels for the newlyweds to walk under. The tires proved to not only be a playful homage to the groom’s profession, but also served as a reminder that Schleck will soon be back on his bike for the Tour of Spain in Seville on August 28th.
