A quarter of a century after the scarlet saree was worn by her mother on her wedding day, tennis star Sania Mirza donned the fiery-hued fabric on the afternoon of April 12, 2010– the day she said “I do” to former Pakistani cricket captain Shoaib Malik.
The groom, who wore a black sherwani by designers Shantanu and Nikhil, was pronounced Ms. Mirza’s husband during a traditional Muslim ceremony held at the Taj Krishna hotel. According to Puggal, the happy couple will continue to celebrate their union over the following days, with the bride’s mehendi ceremony on April 13th, a sangeet on the 14th and a wedding reception on the 15th.
