Although accustomed to sprinting down a race track, Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards took her time as she strolled down the aisle OF Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas toward her groom, New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross. Marking her 25th birthday on February 26, 2010, the athlete was also celebrating the birth of a new life as a wife to the man she met at the Texas Relays during their days at The University of Texas.
According to the New York Times, 500 family members and friends– including Olympic gold medalist guest Carl Lewis– rose in honor of the bride as she walked past in a Swarovski crystal-accented wedding dress designed with a sweetheart neckline and sweeping train. Peering out from behind the blusher of her veil, the bride could see the groom at the altar, dressed in a white Armani tuxedo.
Following the exchange of vows, the newlyweds honored the African tradition of jumping the broom before exiting the church for a reception held at the Four Seasons Austin, where the newlyweds sampled slices of four different wedding cakes, including a Jamaican rum cake and a tasty tribute to the football star’s past and present– a football helmet-shaped cake featuring both the UT Longhorns and New York Giants logos.
Millions of football fans who witnessed the couple’s betrothal during a broadcast of the Giants/Redskins game in December 2007 can share the joy of the couple’s special day when Platinum Weddings airs on WEtv.
