Following in the footsteps of his team mate Shane Victorino, who married in November 2009, Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins was joined in matrimony with Johari Smith on January 23, 2010, ESPN reports. Their dream of saying “I do” unfazed by the 5.8 earthquake which had shaken the Cayman Islands just days before, the couple and 120 friends and family members gathered on the great lawn of the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman for the ceremony.
Topiary trees topped with orange blossoms provided a colorful path for the bride to follow as she walked down the white aisle runner which led to the groom, who wore an all-white ensemble for the happy occasion. Guests, including baseball greats Victorino, Chase Utley, Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard, rose from their seats as the lady of the hour strolled past in a strapless wedding dress, its beauty enhanced by a lace-edged veil which danced, as if for joy, in the breeze.
A shower of rose petals thrown by guests seemed to bless the couple’s union after the ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the hotel’s North Sound Pool, which– like the wedding– was arranged by Celebrations LTD.
