“One crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name.” Knowing that no one is guaranteed tomorrow, British reality star Jade Goody and her love Jack Tweed seemed to take the Sir Walter Scott quote to heart on the day they were pronounced husband and wife.
Wanting to make each day count once the former cast member of Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother received news of her grim prognosis after a valiant battle against cervical cancer, the couple became engaged on Valentine’s Day. The proposal was swiftly followed by an exchange of rings on the banks of the River Thames before making their union official on February 22, 2009 at Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hertfordshire, England, the Telegraph reports.
Dressed in an ivory and cream silk creation by designer Manuel Mota for Pronovias– a £3,500 gown donated by Harrods owner Mohamed al-Fayed– the bride pledged her devotion to her groom during a 45-minute ceremony witnessed by approximately 150 guests, including her two sons, who are still too young to understand that the ceremony– which was covered by the UK edition of OK! magazine for the sum of £750,00– took place in part to secure their future.
Following the ceremony, jubilant songs performed by the Sugababes mingled inside a marquee with the laughter of family and friends as they enjoyed a reception feast of jellied eels, mussels and lobster tagliatelle before gathering outside to watch a fireworks display in the heavens.
