On July 7, 2007, Countess Catherina Graefin Bernadotte held a bouquet of purple, pink and peach-hued roses as she walked down the aisle of the St. Marien church on the island of Mainau to say “I do” to the man who had proposed to her during a helicopter ride over a Hawaiian volcano, Romuald Ruffing. Frescoes of the Virgin Mary that adorn the baroque house of worship bore silent witness as the bride, wearing a white wedding dress with long illusion sleeves, declared her devotion to her new husband. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds walked beneath an arch of broomsticks before posing for photographers.
