A seven-year romance has led to a walk down the aisle for perennial rocker Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, the mother of his 19-month-old son, Alistair. While a large congregation gathered earlier in the week at the Hotel Palace Excelsior in Rapallo, Italy for a pre-ceremony celebration, on June 16, 2007 the bride and groom opted for intimacy during an exchange of vows at the Villa Durazzo, a 17th century edifice in Santa Margherita Ligure. Only two witnesses were present as the Grammy Award winner slipped a wedding band on to the model’s finger to accompany the princess cut diamond engagement ring she has sported since their Eiffel Tower proposal in 2005. The gravel-voiced singer wore his cream-colored jacket and dark blue pin-striped trousers well for the occasion, with the bride choosing an ivory satin, body-hugging mini-dress which highlighted her sun-kissed complexion.
At the conclusion of the civil ceremony, the newlyweds posed for photographers before hopping aboard The Lady Ann Magee, the singer’s yacht, for a ride to La Cervara, where a blast of bagpipes, in honor of the groom’s Scottish heritage, announced their arrival at a 14th century abbey, where 100 guests celebrated a religious blessing of the couple’s union.
