92008: Actor George Takei's Wedding (video)

8th Annual The Trevor Project Benefit Gala
After a 21-year romance, actor George Takei and Brad Altman are finally able to live long and prosper as each other's loving husbands. Among the first same-sex couples to receive a marriage license on June 17, 2008, the pair gathered 200 friends and family members together at the Japanese American National Museum on the evening on September 14, 2008 for a ceremony that celebrated not only the union of two souls, but also the harmonious convergence of various cultures.

Standing in a circle of sunshine yellow flower petals in the museum's Democracy Forum, best man Walter Koenig and matron-of-honor Nichelle Nichols (Chekov and Uhura from the iconic sci-fi series) looked on as their former Star Trek cast mate and the man he loves participated in a Japanese tea ceremony, then presented each other with Native American wedding bands of silver and turquoise as they pledged their continued devotion with self-penned vows. Joined together in matrimony by a Buddhist priest, the blast of Scottish bagpipes rang out the happy news as the newlyweds walked hand in hand to their wedding reception.
