Wedding Photo: Princess Diana On Her Way To St. Paul’s Cathedral

The eyes of the world were upon 20-year-old former nanny Diana Spencer as a Glass Coach left Clarence House, the residence of the Queen Mother, and made its way through the streets of London. Peering through the same window just as Princess Elizabeth (today Queen Elizabeth) did on her wedding day in 1947, the bride waved to the spectators that lined the way to St. Paul’s Cathedral as an estimated 750 million television viewers shared in the happy occasion.

Her carriage reaching its destination at 11 A.M., a crowd that had held its collective breath in anticipation let out a thunderous cheer as Diana stepped out from her ride in a pair of gold-gilded, ivory silk Baboucha slippers, revealing for the first time the silhouette of her Emanuel wedding dress.
