“It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.” These words, the final lines of Wilferd Arlen Peterson’s The Art of Marriage, were spoken on January 29, 1958 at the El Rancho Hotel in Las Vegas during the civil ceremony of the two future Oscar winners. The couple, whose union produced three daughters, obviously took the advice to heart, as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008.
