Celebrity Wedding Photo: Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’ s Wedding in 1986

Mirroring the joy in her heart that day, Sarah Ferguson’s silk tulle veil danced in the breeze as she stepped out of a glass carriage to the thunderous cheers of wellwishers who had gathered outside of Westminster Abbey on July 23, 1986 in order to be among the first to glimpse the bride’s wedding dress. A fairytale frock composed of ivory duchess satin, designer Lindka Cierach created a 17-foot, 6 inch train which trailed behind the bride as she was escorted down the aisle by her father toward the man she loved, Prince Andrew. Marking her transformation into The Duchess of York, the halo of roses, gardenias, lily petals and lilies-of-the-valley which graced her head at the start of the ceremony was removed once the bride and groom were pronounced husband and wife, revealing a decidedly more regal accessory– a diamond tiara.

While their marriage was not to stand the test of time, their union not only produced two daughters which are the lights of both their lives, it also created a lasting friendship between the former couple, whose love and respect for each other carry on to this day.
