Celebrity Engagement Rings: Princess Grace of Monaco

A platinum Cartier band crowned with two baguette diamonds embracing a 10.47-carat, emerald cut diamond sparkled with the promise of forever in January 1956 as Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly announced their intention to say “I do.” The vows, which were first spoken during a civil ceremony on April 18, 1956, completed the silver screen beauty’s transformation from Hollywood royalty to Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco.

A day after being pronounced husband and wife, the couple received a religious blessing of their union at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco. An estimated 30 million viewers tuned in to watch the bride walk down the aisle in a creation of silk taffeta and rose-point lace by MGM designer Helen Rose.
