On December 1, 2007, little Charles Howlett, the five-month-old son of rugby star Doug Howlett and Monique Everard, joined his father’s friends, fellow rugby heroes Daniel Braid, Jerome Kaino and Sione Lauki and approximately 180 other guests on Puketutu Island to witness the couple be united in matrimony, according to The New Zealand Herald. Attempting to make their wedding day a private affair, the lens of the ever-present paparazzi caught only fleeting glimpses of the All Black winger on the rose-petal-sprinkled grounds of the Kelliher Estate, a Spanish Mission-influenced edifice on Auckland’s palm tree-laden private island where the riffs of a three-piece jazz ensemble wafted in the air during the afternoon festivities.
