Hanging on a crimson-colored wall of the Picture Gallery, a Hans Holbein portrait of King Henry VIII was a silent witness to the comings and goings of crew workers on September 23, 2007 as the cast of the upcoming drama “The Young Victoria” prepared to film a scene in Belvoir Castle’s Elizabeth Salon, the Grantham Journal reports. Playing a role alongside actors Paul Bettany, Rupert Friend and Emily Blunt, who is portraying England’s former monarch, the stately residence, which rose like a phoenix from the ashes of four previous castles which once lorded over the Leicestershire grounds, is already a star in its own right, having appeared onscreen in such movies as “Young Sherlock Holmes,” ‘King Ralph,” “The Haunting” and “The Da Vinci Code.” Although the actors’ stay will be short in duration, the sight of costumes at Belvoir Castle will continue long after the cameras stop rolling, as guides in period attire take tourists on a journey back in time as they stroll through the State Rooms, Old Kitchen, and Nursery each year from April through September.
