“Titanic” stars Billy Zane and Eric Braeden, who portrayed John Jacob Astor in the 1998 epic, will once again share screen time when “The Man Who Came Back” hits theaters. Production recently wrapped on the period drama, which filmed in several small Texas communities, including Conroe, Brackettville, and the town of Hempstead, home to the Liendo Plantation. The elegant, colonial style edifice, which plays a starring role in the upcoming feature film, has welcomed a number of luminaries over the years, including General George Custer, who was stationed at the plantation following the Civil War, and noted sculptor Elizabet Ney who, along with her husband, called the mansion home from 1873 to 1911 and rests for eternity amid the live oaks that dot the grounds.
Tourists can travel back to the days when cotton was king on a guided tour of the plantation, which often opens its doors to the public the first Saturday of each month. For one weekend each November, the ghosts of Civil War-era souls seem to return as re-enactors in period costume roam the plantation in a three-day tribute to the past.
