Who: golfer
Tiger Woods and Swedish model Elin Nordegren
When: October 5, 2004
Where: The Sandy Lane Resort on St. James, Barbados
The Ceremony: A November 2003 proposal in the sultry
climate of a South African
game preserve led to a reported $1.5 million dollar sunset
wedding on the island of Barbados, where the groom guaranteed
an exchange of vows far from the prying eyes of the paparazzi
by renting all two hundred rooms of the luxurious Sandy Lane
Resort, known as a haven for vacationing celebrities since 1961.
Over 120 guests, including sports legends Michael Jordan and
Charles Barkley witnessed the hilltop ceremony in a covered
pagoda adorned with 10,000 crimson and black roses.
The Dress: The public was afforded only a fleeting glimpse
of the bride and groom in their wedding attire. The Swedish
model wore a white, sleeveless floor-length gown with a scooped
neck, while the groom donned a tan suit.
The Reception: As a performance from Hootie and The Blowfish
echoed in the tent erected on The Green Monkey golf course,
champagne flowed freely as guests dined on caviar and blackened
Scottish salmon, shrimp cocktail, flying fish, macaroni pie,
and a four-tiered wedding cake. The festivities were capped
off with fireworks that illuminated the sky over the St. James
coast.
The Honeymoon: The newly betrothed spent their first
night as husband and wife aboard the aptly-christened yacht
"Privacy" before spending the first leg of their honeymoon
diving in the cobalt waters of the Caribbean.
